A cruise ship sailed into New York City with one extra passenger on board -- a dead 44-foot whale.
The MSC Meraviglia pulled up to the dock in Brooklyn with a dead sei whale stuck to the ship's bow. The cruise line said, "We immediately notified the relevant authorities, who are now conducting an examination of the whale. We are deeply saddened by the loss of any marine life." Biologists are conducting a necropsy on the whale to determine whether it was killed by the ship or if it was already dead when the ship struck it. Early indication is that it was likely killed by the ship because there was relatively fresh food inside the whale's stomach. Sei whales are an endangered species and cruise ships typically take precautions to avoid them. (NY Post)
