Taylor Swift’s new song is a bona fide pop music hit!
“Shake It Off,” the first single from Tay’s new album 1989, has skyrocketed to a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100, the all-genre chart that measures sales, radio airplay and streaming.
“Just LOOK at the records you broke for me this week,” Taylor tweeted with a link to a Billboard article listing the song’s first-week successes. “I can't thank you enough. I've never been happier in my life.”
The song with a message to have more fun than your haters accumulated a total of 544,000 first-week downloads, the most of any song this year and the fourth-best bow of all time.
While “Shake It Off” is Taylor’s second No. 1 debut on the Hot 100 (following 2012’s three-week No. 1 “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”), it is her 60th overall appearance on the chart.
Her first was her debut single “Tim McGraw” in 2006.
