Microsoft announced today that they are cutting 18-thousand jobs, the most layoffs in the company's history.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sent out an email this morning to all employees informing them that the cuts will happen within the year, with the majority of them coming in the next six months. Nadella explained the cuts are necessary to "simplify the way we work to drive greater accountability, become more agile and move faster." The last large round of layoffs occurred in 2009 when Microsoft laid off more than 5,000 workers. (CNBC)
