Homecoming Voter Fraud

Homecoming Voter Fraud

A Florida teenager and her mother, who is a school assistant principal, were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly hacking into student email accounts to fraudulently cast votes for the teen to be homecoming queen.

50-year-old Laura Rose Carroll and her 17-year-old daughter, Emily Rose Grover, are accused of getting into hundreds of student accounts, which the mother was able to access because she is an assistant principal in the district. The two of them cast about 250 fraudulent votes for Emily within a short period of time. Investigators were able to trace the fake votes back to Carroll's cell phone and their home computer. Not only that, some students said Emily told them that her mom was casting fake votes for her.

The duo's behavior, which happens to be very unbecoming of a true homecoming queen, earned them a trip to jail and charges against computers, unlawful use of a two-way communications device, criminal use of personally identifiable information, and conspiracy to commit these offenses.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • What a Lori Loughlin-type thing to do.
  • Seriously? All that cheating just to get a crown?
  • The mother had a pretty good job as an assistant principal and threw it all away to help her daughter become homecoming queen.
  • It's really just so pathetic. Shame on them.
