Flightless Birds Flew the Coop

Flightless Birds Flew the Coop

Residents of Danville, Illinois are being warned about an escaped emu on the loose.

Local animal control officials reported Friday that 11 of the large flightless birds escaped from their owner's property, along with some cow accomplices, and were on the run. 11 emus got out and 10 have since been captured, including one that was sadly hit by a bus. One is still on the loose and officials are warning residents to stay away from it and not try to capture it because it has very sharp talons and could be very dangerous. The owner of 4D Farms in Danville told law enforcement that some kids damaged his fence and that's how the animals were able to get out. He also says his cows are all accounted for. (WCIA-TV)

Scott's Thoughts:

  • Emus are tough to capture. They're huge and they need to be tackled and hogtied.
  • There have been some reports of people being chased by the emus.
  • Darn kids! It's believed they were trying to climb the fence to get into the farm, and the fence broke. Good thing they didn't get in. They could have been killed by the emus.
  • All I know is if they can get their head in my window they will practically take the bucket of feed I got for them.
