Bear Gets High on "Mad Honey"

Bear Gets High on "Mad Honey"

We've heard the expression "drunk as a skunk," but "drunk as a bear" may be more accurate.

Wildlife officials in Turkey had to be called out to the woods to rescue an intoxicated bear that was stumbling and falling over. Veterinarians examined her and determined that she was tripping on hallucinogenic honey. There is a type of honey made from the nectar of a species of rhododendron plant which contains hallucinogen called grayanotoxin. Wildlife officials refer to it as "mad honey" and say the bear likely downed a lot of it. The bear is being treated and is said to be in good health. She will eventually be returned to the wild. Meanwhile, the wildlife ministry is asking the public to come up with an appropriate name for the bear. (The Guardian)

  • Now we know why Winnie the Pooh was seeing Heffalumps and Woozles.
  • Where can I get some of this mad honey?
  • A good name? How about Winnie the Hooch? Or Beary McBearface?
