Saxual Healing
I bet Kenny G has never done this. A 35-year-old musician in Italy recently underwent brain surgery... and played the saxophone throughout the procedure.
Doctors at the hospital in Rome performed surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. The patient was kept awake for the nine-hour procedure and played the instrument the whole time. Doctors said they listened to the performance to help them map the various functions of his brain as they manipulated different parts of the organ. The lead surgeon explained, "Awake surgery makes it possible to map with extreme precision during surgery the neuronal networks that underlie the various brain functions such as playing, speaking, moving, remembering, counting."
The surgery was a success and the patient was discharged from the hospital three days later with no negative impact on his brain. (CBS News)
