An "Alien Log" Washes Up On Shore In New Zealand

A giant log with “worm-like tentacles and living creatures in the shells” has washed up in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty and has locals freaking out. The log, which washed ashore on May 7th, is over 16 feet long and covered with tentacles-like strands.

Though locals have wondered if the UFO (Unidentified Floating Object) was a sea delicacy known as gooseneck barnacles, experts think it’s something else. Marine invertebrate curator at Auckland Museum, Wilma Blom thinks the alien log is something called Lepas Anatifera, which she says is sometimes eaten in the Mediterranean. As to why they ended up in New Zealand, Blom says you can thank north-easterly winds for that.
