The Need for Speed

If you've ever been pulled over for speeding, you know how driving even 10 or 20 mph over the speed limit will result in a large fine and points on your license. Imagine the fine and points you would get for driving more than 100 mph over the speed limit.

Deputies in Forsythe County, Georgia stopped the driver of a Ferrari who was clocked at 178 mph. The sheriff's department said in a statement, "There are no justifiable reasons for going that fast. Even if you aren’t concerned about your own safety, you are putting others at risk if something goes wrong." Georgia has a Super Speeder Law which tacks an additional $200 fine onto a ticket for any motorist driving 75 mph or more on a two-lane road. It's unclear if the driver of the Ferrari was arrested or just given a ticket. (WSB-TV)

  • That is extremely excessive speed. The driver should be arrested or at least have his license revoked.
  • It had to have been a pretty straight stretch of road to reach that kind of speed.
