CROCODILE IN COSTA RICA EXPERIENCES "VIRGIN BIRTH"

Could Jeff Goldblum’s character in “Jurassic Park” have been right all along? Does nature find a way? Scientists in Costa Rica have discovered a female crocodile that had been kept in isolation for 16 has given birth to an egg. And not just any egg…it contained a fully formed fetus which was a “genetic clone” of its mother.

Unfortunately, the little croc didn’t survive. However, this phenomenon has researchers believing this trait was inherited from an ancestor shared by reptiles and birds 265 million years ago. This leads them to believe that dinosaurs, which were similar to these animals, may have also had the ability to reproduce on their own.
