MRI Plan Backfired

A Wisconsin woman is lucky to be alive after she ignored the most basic rule of the MRI and brought a gun into the screening room.

The 57-year-old was specifically warned about bringing any type of metal into the screening room because the magnetic field of the scanner could pose dangerous risks. But despite the warning, she still tried to sneak in a handgun. As soon as she walked into the room, the magnetic field caused the gun to go off and it fired a single shot right into her buttocks. He wound was described as "superficial" and she was treated for her injury. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)

Oddly enough, this isn't the first time someone was shot in an MRI. Earlier this year, a man snuck in a gun and the MRI caused it to fire a shot into his stomach, which killed him.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • It's one thing to forget about removing a ring or some loose change. But a gun?
  • She probably didn't want anyone knowing she had a gun or didn't trust anyone to hold it for her..
  • This is why the warnings about wearing metal in an MRI should never be ignored. That machine is powerful.
