Dry January Is Hurting Beer, Wine and Liquor Sales.

It looks like the idea of "Dry January" or "Damp January" is making a dent in the sales of beer, wine and liquor.

Last year, Americans spent $565 million on non-alcoholic beer, wine and spirits, which about 35% more than the previous year and is the biggest sales increase of any adult beverage category.

Speaking of alcohol...

Pricey Booze ... An extremely rare bottle of 30-year-old single malt Irish whiskey – touted as the "rarest triple-distilled single malt in existence" – was sold at auction for $2.8 million. Craft Irish Whiskey Company produced only seven bottles of this stuff – and created a designer box for each, which includes a decanter, a Fabergé egg containing an actual emerald gem, a custom timepiece and a pair of Cohiba cigars and a custom walnut case. The price of $2.8 million beat out the previous record by $100,000.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I continue to do my part to support beer, wine and liquor sales. You're welcome.
  •  I guess the non-alcoholic drink companies are benefiting.
  • I don't really drink enough to make a difference either way. Getting older means having to cut back on the spirits.
