SCN: Woman Allegedly Steals Over $100 Million From U.S. Army

According to reports, a U.S. Army employee managed to steal over $100 million, is now under criminal investigation, but somehow still “has been allowed to retire with full benefits.” Janet Yamanaka Mello stands accused of “creating a shell company” in which us stashed “huge sums (of money) destined for military youth programs across the country.” Reportedly, she used that cash to accumulate “80 supercars and 31 homes” in the process. Mello is said to have worked at Joint Base San Antionio-Fort Sam Houston as a civilian finance manager and is alleged to have worked up the fraud over a six-year period before the IRS caught on. A spokesman for the Army says, “The command has no authority to impact Ms. Mello’s retirement.” A criminal investigation is ongoing.

Record Bust Seizes Over $1 Billion In Cocaine

This month, there was a record seizure at the hands of the Armed Forces of Ecuador. Earlier this month, packages labeled for five different airlines, were confiscated after being found buried in a Los Rios pig farm. In total, those packages contained a reported 22 tons of cocaine. That translates to a street value of over $1.1 billion, which is a record. The surveillance took a six-month operation and required 150 soldiers to dig four meters underground to find ten tons of the product. The rest was found in a sewer duct on that same property.

Two Men Arrested And Accused Of Stealing Oil From Fast Food Joints

You might not have been aware of it, but it seems there’s money to be made in stolen fast-food oil. Two men, Gary Rivera and Jonatan Soriano, have been arrested after being suspected of siphoning oil from local Taco Bell and Popeye’s restaurants in the Monticello, New York area. Reportedly, that stolen oil can be “refined” and then “sold as biodiesel for $4 to $5 a gallon.” In some areas, the theft of this kind of oil has reached “epidemic proportions.”
