Weapon of Mass Construction

Construction at the site of a future college campus in Florida was temporarily put on hold this week after workers digging up the ground found a World War Two-era bomb.

The crew was working in Brooksville, Florida, north of Tampa, at a site that will be the future home of Wilton Simpson Technical College. The sheriff's office evacuated the area within a half-mile radius while it waited for a bomb squad to arrive. Experts checked it out and determined that the rusted and decayed 1000-pound bomb dated back to the second world war and that it was inert. It's believed the bomb was a remnant of an old military airfield that had been used for B-17 and B-24 training missions. It was removed and brought to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa will it will be properly disposed. (WPEC-TV - Palm Beach)
