SURVEY: HOW AMERICANS REALLY FEEL ABOUT THE TIKTOK BAN

Last week President Biden signed the bill that gives TikTok’s parent company ByteDance nine months to sell the social media app or be banned in the U.S. And according to a new survey, 42% of Americans support the move, while only 23% are against it and 31% have no real opinion on the ban.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults also finds:

  • While 42% of Gen Z and 35% of millennials say they regularly use TikTok, 36% of Gen Z and 40% of millennials still support the ban.
  • Only a quarter (25%) of all respondents say they’d be affected by the ban and 45% say it won’t impact them at all.
  • More than half (58%) of those polled report that they don’t use TikTok at all.
  • Among parents, 47% share concerns over their kids using the app, with 21% admitting they’re “very” worried about their child using TikTok.
  • Parents’ biggest concerns about the app are their child seeing inappropriate or disturbing content (58%), them becoming too obsessed with it (51%), concerns over data privacy (44%) and fears about cyberbullying (43%).
  • Some parents are also worried about what their kids are posting and sharing on TikTok (39%), who they’re meeting and engaging with on the app (38%) and it shortening their attention spans (29%).
  • Only 20% of parents say they’re not at all concerned about their child using TikTok.

Talk Back:

  • I sometimes watch TikTok but not often. Guess I am too old.
  • I actually watch Facebook Reels a lot.
