HOW MUCH AMERICANS LOVE THEIR CARS

Do you remember your very first car? A new survey finds that 87% of drivers do, and 60% of them wish they could travel back in time to take better care of it. While a car is just transportation for some, 38% of people consider themselves “car lovers” and they’re devoted to their vehicle.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. drivers also reveals:

  • More than half (58%) like their car and the service it provides, while 38% love their current car.
  • Half (49%) of car lovers are likely to name their car, compared to 20% of “car likers” and 14% of “car dislikers.”
  • And 85% of those who’ve named their car have named “every single car” they’ve ever had.
  • People name their car based on its personality (37%), the make and model (29%) or how it performs (21%).
  • While 92% of all respondents agree it’s important to regularly maintain their car, only 18% have maintenance done to it more often than what’s recommended.
  • Car lovers tend to have maintenance done on their ride more often than needed (29%), are more likely to immediately get a warning light checked out (38%) and park under shade when they can (27%) than those who aren’t as passionate about cars.
  • The top ways people show their car some love are giving it regular maintenance (69%), having its oil changed (65%), getting it washed and waxed (60%), taking it out for a leisure drive (45%), getting it detailed (39%), decorating it (24%), and showing it off to friends (21%).

Scott's Thoughts:

  • If people don’t name their car, what do they call it?
  • I remember my first few cars! Pontiac Phoenix, Chevy Chevet, Dodge Dart and Ford Festiva!
  • Now that I am older a car is just "Dependable Transportation."
