Labor Day is almost here and millions of Americans will be driving to their destination for the holiday weekend. This has been a record-breaking travel season and the final long weekend of summer will be busy, with travel within the U.S. up 9% from last year, AAA reports.
While some folks will be flying to their destinations, many will be driving and that means traffic will be heavy. But when you hit the road can make a difference in how long it takes you to reach your destination. Fortunately, INRIX is ready to help by revealing the best and worst times to travel for the long holiday weekend. The transportation analytics company reports that the roads will be most congested on the afternoons of Thursday, August 29th, Friday, August 30th and the morning of Saturday, August 31st.
The BEST times to travel by car for the weekend are:
- Thursday, August 29th - Before 11:00 a.m.
- Friday, August 30th - Before noon or after 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, August 31st - After noon
- Sunday, September 1st - Before noon
- Monday, September 2nd - Before 10:00 a.m.
- Tuesday, September 3rd - After 1:00 p.m.
The WORST times to travel by car include:
- Thursday, August 29th - 1:00 p.m to 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, August 30th - 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday, August 31st - 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
- Sunday, September 1st - 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Monday, September 2nd - 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, September 3rd - 8:00 a.m. to noon
