Florida Man Has Frequent Flyer Miles to Jail

Getting caught switching barcodes to purchase items at a cheaper price will get you put in jail, but it probably won't put you in the news -- unless you're Mark Brents of Florida.

The 57-year-old was caught manipulating barcodes at Lowe's stores around Clearwater, Florida and arrested. The reason it's newsworthy is because it marked the 75th time he's been arrested. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, "Despite this individual's lengthy criminal history, he still has not learned his lesson. We will not tolerate habitual offenders who continue to prey on our community."

According to the sheriff's office, Brents has been in an out of jail since 1985 and has served 11 separate prison sentences. This latest arrest, which occurred while he was on probation for a prior offense, has him facing charges of organizing a scheme to defraud less than $20,000, retail theft of $3000 or more, and felony petit theft.
