Survey: Americans Are Bored Of Christmas Traditions

A lot of us stick to the same Christmas customs year after year and it turns out, some folks are ready for a change. A new survey finds that 31% of Americans are tired of traditions and would like to shake up the holiday with festive new alternatives.

According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults who celebrate the winter holidays:

  • A lot of people want to switch up the holiday meal, gladly trading the traditional turkey for pizza (44%), or tacos (38%), or a juicy burger (31%), or even Chinese takeout (34%).
  • Beyond the food, 62% feel there’s an obligation to follow holiday traditions and 49% agree people are generally nervous about boycotting them.
  • But 69% admit they’re interested in creating unique new festive customs for their family and friends, and 22% think their loved ones would be “excited” to swap their usual holiday routine for new alternatives.
  • Nearly half (47%) admit they’d rather spend all of Christmas Day in their jammies than get dressed up.

The Top Christmas Traditions People Would Be Open To Swapping

  1. Sending Christmas cards
  2. Ugly Christmas sweater parties
  3. Gift-giving
  4. Secret Santa gift exchanges
  5. Listening to Christmas songs

  • Christmas tacos do sound pretty good, but can we still have mashed potatoes with them?
  • As long as my mom is able to host traditional Christmas, I will be there even if only a few hours.
  • Pizza for Christmas. I could also live with that.
