Starbucks is ditching its pickup-only store model in the U.S., saying goodbye to the app-focused locations that skipped the cozy café vibe. Originally launched in 2019 to streamline mobile orders, the format spread to about 90 spots in airports, hospitals, and downtown areas. The company now says these ultra-efficient shops just felt too cold and impersonal, and some may be converted into new compact cafés with limited seating to blend convenience with the signature Starbucks warmth.
