The Blacksburg Police Department (BPD) is investigating an incident that occurred at Blacksburg High School earlier today.

The BPD, in the course of  investigating an unrelated incident, recovered a 22-caliber pistol located in the vehicle of a Blacksburg High School student.  The vehicle was parked on school property at the time of the incident.  This occurred during school hours and school officials were present with the school resource officer when the weapon was recovered.

It does not appear the student had any intention to use the weapon at the school and no threats were made towards the students, faculty or staff of the school.

The student, who is not being identified, was charged with Possession of a Loaded Gun on School Property (Felony).

The Blacksburg Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.
