Robbery turned shooting leaves 1 dead, 2 arrested, 1 at large in Roanoke

May 23, 2018 - Roanoke County Police said it's investigating a weekend homicide that left a woman dead and two people, including a juvenile, behind bars.

Police said a woman with a gunshot would was brought to the LewisGale Medical Center emergency room by a man who fled the scene around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th. 

A witness was able to get the tag number from the man's car, which led police to the area over Overland Drive. 

Police said during the next several hours, officers searched multiple buildings and search warrants were conducted in the 5000 block of Overland Drive in connection with the crime. 

As a result, officers determined the scene of the crime to be a home in the 5200 block of Overland Drive and they collected evidence from the scene. 

Police said they were able to develop several suspects after the Medical Examiner positively identified the victim as Amber C. Ross, 35, of Franklin County. 

After interviewing witnesses, police said their investigation determined that a robbery was set up at the home on Overland Drive where a fight broke out between a resident and a suspect who pulled out a gun.

Ross, who police said was at the home, was shot when the suspect fired the gun.

Police said three suspects fled the scene and a man, who lived in the home, took Ross to the ER before fleeing.

Additional search warrants and interviews were conducted that led officers to a home in the 700 block of McDowell Avenue, NW in Roanoke where two suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday, May 22 without incident.

Police identified those two suspects as Aaron Witcher, 27, of Roanoke and a 17-year-old male, also of Roanoke.

A third suspect has been identified as Shamby Walker, who police said is still at large.
