Roanoke City School Board Votes Votes To Rename Stonewall Jackson Middle

 The Roanoke City School Board decided Monday to rename Stonewall Jackson Middle School in a 6 to 1 vote. 

During the school board meeting at William Fleming High School, each member of the board spoke. 

According  to the superintendent, estimates to change the name include $35,000 to  $50,000 for uniforms, $100,000 for the gym floor, and $20,000 for signs  and installation. 

The board voted to rename the school, named for a Confederate General, to 20th century Roanoke Railroad executive John P. Fishwick Middle School. The vote was 5 to 2.
