Off-Duty Bedford Police Officer Brought Unresponsive Child Back to Life

A one-year-old is alive after the Bedford County Sheriff's Office said an off-duty officer saved the child's life.

The sheriff's office said they got several 911 calls on Sunday, August 5 from individuals who said they were at Smith Mountain Lake State Park Bench and small child had been removed from the water, who was unresponsive and not breathing.

As emergency crews were dispatched and responding, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Sonny Daniels, who was at the State Park and off duty, heard a woman screaming and carrying a small child out of the water.
