Wounded Soldier And Injured Military Dog Reunited

A wounded Army specialist has been reunited with his military dog after each was awarded a Purple Heart for their bravery. Specialist Alec Alcoser and Alex, his eight-year-old German shepherd, were both badly injured during a suicide bombing last month in Afghanistan and received the honor for their heroism.

The pair had an emotional reunion at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System’s Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center. The man and his dog had grown very close during their deployment and were happy to see each other again after weeks apart.

"Alex ain't complaining, so I don't think I should, either," Alcoser says. "A lot of people call him a dog, but I think he's a little more than that. He's a soldier."
