Girl Quarterbacks For Middle School Football Team

A student at Maple Park Middle School is making waves and breaking gender norms. Nevaeh Spillman started playing football when she was a toddler.

Now the 13-year-old is the lead quarterback at her school in North Kansas City, Missouri. “I was so nervous in the beginning because I had never played for a school. I’ve always played in leagues,” she told the local news. But apparently she has no reason to worried. One of her teammates said Spillman “can do a lot on the field” and she has a “good arm.”

As the only girl on her team, Nevaeh said she hopes her story inspires other girls interested in football.
