BREAKING: Officer shoots at suspect driving by with gun pointed at police

The Roanoke Police Department said an officer was involved in a shooting with a suspect this afternoon in the area of 17th Street and Loudon Avenue, N.W.

Police said officers were in the are around 3:00 p.m. investigating a nuisance call when they heard the sound of gunshots and saw a vehicle driving in the vicinity. As the vehicle drove past officers, they saw a gun pointed at them. One officer fired his weapon at the person in the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle left the scene and was located abandoned a few minutes later on 12th Street, NW.

No injuries have been reported.

In accordance with department policy, Virginia State Police have been notified and will be conducting the investigation.
