Mother pleads guilty to felony child abuse charges, gets no extra jail time

A mother who pleaded guilty to three counts of felony child abuse will not serve any more jail time.

Victoria Crockett was sentenced to three years on each charge, making that nine years total, with all but 10 days suspended. She served 12 days before she was released on bail in May 2018, so the judge said she wouldn't have to serve additional time.

Commonwealth's Attorney Mary Pettitt said Crockett was also a victim of Ben Crockett's controlling and abusive behavior.

She attempted to protect her children by sending them to their grandfather's home, but Pettitt said she was aware of the physical abuse from Crockett and sometimes failed to protect them from his violence.

According to a search warrant, the family was living in a house with four children that was covered in dog feces.

The warrant showed that the entire downstairs floor was matted with dog feces, there was dog feces on the wall, and the smell was unbearable.

The kitchen was full of dirty dishes and mold, one sink was overflowing with water, there were holes in the wall, and their one-and-a-half-year-old had dog feces on the floor of their bedroom, their bedding was dirty, and all of the clothes in the dresser were filthy and smelled of dog urine, the warrant showed.

According to the warrant, there were seven dogs and 12 puppies living in the home.
