The winner of the St. Jude Dream Home shares his plans for his new house

Some dreams came true for the winner of the St. Jude's Dream Home Giveaway, Justin Dodd, who lives in Charlotte Court House.

Dodd, 33, was at his parents' house buttering his potato for dinner when he heard his name called live on the air at ABC-13 WSET. He had just bought five tickets in the morning, just in time for the big drawing.

"I really didn't know what to say. My mom was yelling and my dad was pretty excited as well," said Dodd. "It really hits home when you see the little ones when they're sick and have done nothing to ask for it, so it's a good program."

He lives in his late grandmother's home in Charlotte Court House and plans to keep it in the family.

In the meantime, he's also making big plans to pack up and move into his brand-new St. Jude Dream Home in Daleville at Ashley Plantation..

Dodd says he has to take care of some business first before heading out to his new castle in the next day or so.

New Country 107.9 WYYD, an iHeartMedia station, is a proud partner with St. Jude Children's Research Center and the "Country Cares for St. Jude Kids" program.

The mission of St. Jude is all about finding cures and saving children. Actor-comedian Danny Thomas, founded St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and it opened its doors in 1962 with the dream that, "no child should die in the dawn of life." Thomas vowed that no child would be denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay and that remains true today. No family ever receives a bill from St. Jude. No parent ever pays for treatment, travel, housing, or meals.

The cure rate for A.L.L., the most common form of childhood cancer, was only 4% in 1962. Today, that survival rate is 94%, thanks to the groundbreaking researching at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Overall, the survival rate has increased from 20% to 80% for all forms of childhood cancer.

St. Jude freely shares all research with doctors and hospitals all over the world.
