Speed, drugs and alcohol may be a factor in a deadly accident in Roanoke

Police say speed, alcohol and drugs could be factors in a deadly four-vehicle accident on Brambleton Avenue at Garst Mill Road in Roanoke.

According to Roanoke County Police, a Volvo sedan was traveling southbound on Brambleton Avenue when it rear-ended a Toyota driven by Thomas Orr, 48. Orr's vehicle then left the right side of the roadway where it struck a utility pole.

Orr was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Roanoke County Police say the sedan continued southbound on Brambleton Avenue where it struck a Cadillac and pushed the Cadillac into a pickup truck.

The driver of the Cadillac was transported to the hospital and has been released, police say. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The driver of the Volvo was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

All of the people involved were wearing seatbelts, police say.

Roanoke County Police say speed, drugs and alcohol may have been factors in the accident.
