Season-Opener Between Virginia Tech and UVA Postponed Due to COVID Concerns

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The University of Virginia and Virginia Tech announced on Saturday that they will be postponing the season-opening football game originally scheduled for Saturday, September 19.

According to a release from Virginia Tech, the school consulted with Atlantic Coast Conference officials, those at the University of Virginia, campus leadership at Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech's Chief Medical Officer to make the decision.

The schools cite ongoing COVID-19 concerns as the reason for the delay.

Virginia Tech said that they will be pausing its football practices for four days.

The school is now scheduled to open its 2020 fall football season on Saturday, September 26 against NC State at Lane Stadium.
