Franklin County Shooting Suspect in Custody

UPDATE:

Emmitt Southern is in custody after a traffic stop in Montgomery County, Virginia.

Warrant to be served for Malicious Wounding with additional charges forthcoming.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A manhunt is underway for a suspect in a shooting in Franklin County.

Just after 10 a.m., the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to the Cannaday's Store in the 24800 block of Virgil H Goode Highway in Boones Mill.

One male victim was located and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies say 55-year-old Emmitt Southern, of Princeton, West Virginia, fled before law enforcement arrived. Authorities are actively searching for Southern.

Southern is believed to be driving an older model, dark blue Chevy Blazer with West Virginia tags "NBV-349." He may be traveling on 220 North or I-81.
