BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) — The National D-Day Memorial received a big donation Monday as a part of the commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the Normandy invasion during World War II.

The John and Doris Fowler family donated $1 million to the Memorial to go to the Memorial's Motor Pool as an added expansion.

The Motor Pool will feature vehicles used during the war and that era.

Doris Fowler said this donation would be so important to her husband John, who passed away a few years ago.

“We feel -- certainly -- the sacrifice the Bedford Boys made, should not be forgotten,” Fowler said.

The Bedford Boys were a group of 19 young men that died in the invasion and were all from Bedford County.
