Elks USA Proclaims November as Veterans Remembrance Month

Elks National President Douglas A. Shiefer has officially declared November as Veterans Remembrance Month, a time to honor the men and women who have faithfully served our country in the armed forces.

The Elks have a longstanding pledge: “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” This commitment is evident as Elks members across the nation dedicate their time, energy, and resources to support veterans and military members in need. Last year alone, the Elks’ contributions to veterans were valued at an impressive $55,654,802.

In VA Medical Centers, State Veterans Homes, and communities nationwide, Elks are actively helping veterans access essential healthcare, housing, and community connections. One notable initiative is the Elks Emergency Assistance Fund, which aids veterans in preventing or exiting homelessness. Recently, this fund helped a 91-year-old Korean War veteran secure a new home after his previous residence became unavailable. This small but significant financial assistance provided him with a fresh start.

A VA Social Worker expressed gratitude on behalf of the veteran, saying, “Thank you to the Elks team and all supporting members. The veteran wanted me to share his gratitude for the assistance in a very challenging time. It made a great difference. The funds made rehousing not merely a hope, but made it possible!”

From supporting the children of deployed National Guard members to helping Korean War veterans stay stably housed, the Elks are a reliable source of support for veterans and their families at every stage of life.

The Elks urge all Americans to join them in serving the veterans in their communities. Our nation’s veterans have served their time; now, it’s our turn to serve them.

With nearly 1,800 Elks Lodges across the country and a membership of nearly 800,000, the Elks are a powerful force for good. To learn more and join in their mission, visit www.elks.org. For membership information, visit Join.Elks.Org.
