The country’s “dairy epicenter” is being sued over banned butter.
It’s not enough that the federal government has stringent rules governing dairy, so Wisconsin has their own rating system and because of it one popular item is banned. That’s caused the court case.
The state’s 1954 “rating system” is based on taste, color and texture, but not on health or safety standards. Because of the system Kerrygold Irish butter is banned and residents have to drive across state lines to get it.
The punishment for retailers who carry banned products is a $1,000 fine or six months in jail for violators.Source: UPI
