Beachgoers can't go swimming in many places at the Jersey Shore due to high bacteria levels.
Officials have closed 15 beaches to swimming in Atlantic and Ocean counties and have issued advisories for a handful of other beaches. Environmental officials issue advisories when water samples show bacteria levels exceed state standards. They close the water if two consecutive samples contain unacceptable levels of bacteria.
