James Corden opened Sunday's Grammy Awards by falling down a staircase after his lift got stuck. He then stumbled into a disastrous dance routine that he quickly shut down. The host followed that up with a rap about his (fake) missteps, the nominees and Donald Trump.
Of course, there was a nod to Corden's trademark segment "Carpool Karaoke." With a cardboard cutout of a car, the host grabbed Tim McGraw, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Jason Derulo and Neil Diamond to sing Diamond's "Sweet Caroline." Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy wandered into the bit midway through.
Even Corden's parents got in on the act, sitting in the audience and snuggling with their "free pass" celebrities, Nick Jonas and Heidi Klum. Margaret and Malcolm Corden were there to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
In another bit, Corden asked viewers to tweet about the show, but onscreen Twitter feed showed only critical messages about the host. "The negative tweets are fake tweets!" he joked.
Another highlight for Corden came when he dropped his pants on stage, in tribute to Twenty One Pilots, who did the same during their acceptance speech.
