BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) - The Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke has confirmed the identity of a teenager found dead on Roaring Run Road as Raymond Wood, 17, of Lynchburg.

Officials with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office say the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Officials say no arrests have been made as of Wednesday, but believe there is no danger to the community.

Wood's family says he went missing Monday night from his home on Coronado Lane, after saying he was going to visit a friend.

According to Lynchburg Police, Wood's family filed a missing persons report around 4 a.m. Tuesday, which is tied to the investigation into Wood's death.

Around 9:30 p.m. a driver called 911 and reported that Wood's body was in the middle of Roaring Run Road.

Five Forest area schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday under advisement from law enforcement.

The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is fluid, ongoing, and involves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

Officials say they will only be releasing information that is "credible and vital for public knowledge."

The Sheriff's Office is asking for patience as they move forward with the investigation.
