Michael Jordan Donates $7M For Medical Clinics

Basketball legend Michael Jordan is making a huge gift to Charlotte, North Carolina. The former NBA player and Charlotte Hornets owner is donating $7 million to start two medical clinics in low-income communities to fund the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinics.

Jordan’s spokeswoman Estee Portnoy says he was looking for ways to Charlotte’s poorest communities after a 2014 study from Harvard and UC Berkeley found that poor kids in Charlotte had the worst odds of lifting themselves out of poverty than any other big city in the U.S.

In a statement, Jordan says he’s proud to work with Novant “to bring critical health services to underserved areas of Charlotte and the thousands of North Carolinians with limited access to health care.” He also says he hopes the clinics “will provide a brighter and healthier future for the children and families they serve.”
