For over 15 years I had the privilege of working alongside Rick Watson, voice of the Radford University Highlanders basketball team, on the "Tailgate Show" for Virginia Tech football on WBRW FM. My experience with Rick was incredible. His knowledge of college football blew me away every week. It became almost like a weekly interview of an expert. I steered the ship, asked questions, and Rick would answer and offer his opinion each week. I could randomly talk about any top college program in America, and without preparation or prior knowledge that he would be asked that question, he would answer immediately with the quarterbacks name, coaches name, stats... everything! Week after week we would quite literally run out of time to talk about everything we wanted to cover before turning it over to the network broadcast 90 minutes before kickoff.
Watching the video below and hearing the call made by Rick as RU heads to the big dance made me so proud to say... I worked with that guy! He was my broadcast partner, and he IS my friend. Way to go RU and way to go Rick! Good luck in the tourney!
