The HOT Dog Days of Summer

The Dog Days of Summer … When it comes to hot dog toppings, mustard and relish are the norm, and foodies say never ketchup (at least not as an adult). What do you say? What is the best topping for a hot dog? What should NEVER be on a hot dog?

Speaking of hot dogs …

July 4th is a banner day for hot dogs, as millions will be eaten. Many of these dogs will be sucked down in New York's Coney Island at the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Will Joey Chestnut hold on to the Mustard Belt? Can anyone beat five-time female champ Miki Sudo? The competition airs live on Thursday, July 4th on ESPN.

  • Do you watch the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest?
  • Does it make you sick to watch people eat so many hot dogs?
  • How many do you think you could eat in 10 minutes?

Did you know …According to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, 150 million dogs get consumed on the Fourth of July – enough to stretch between L.A. and Washington, D.C., more than five times. (USA Today)

And you’ll need plenty of beer to wash down all those dogs …July 4th is America’s top beer drinking holiday. $1 billion will be spent on beer for the Fourth of July. $568 million will be spent on wine. Cheers! (Wallet Hub)

But wait …According to a poll by the Food Network, 50% of Americans would prefer a burger over the traditional hot dog this year. In fact, 21% of respondents said they are sick of hot dogs as the traditional main dish of a Fourth of July BBQ. (Today)
