HUMANS COULD BE CAPABLE OF KICKING 90-YARD FIELD GOALS

The NFL record for the longest field goal kicked in a game is a 64 yards.

With that in mind, some researchers at Florida State University built a robot to help them figure out just what it would take for a human NFL kicker to break that record.

Using the robot, named Herbie Junior, the researchers discovered that elite NFL kickers should be able to kick the ball through the uprights from 80 yards away. The researchers went so far as to predict that 90-yard field goals are not totally impossible.

Of course, everything has to be perfect -- including the condition of the ball, foot speed and foot placement, among other factors. So it’s difficult, but not impossible. (Wired)
