School Dazed
A Texas man woke up one morning and got ready to go to school. The only problem is, he's a 37-year-old married father who was stricken with a bout of Transient Global Amnesia -- a sudden, and usually temporary interruption of short-term memory.
Doctors say Daniel Porter woke up last year believing he was still 16-years-old and started getting ready for school. He was shocked when he found a strange woman lying next to him, who was actually his wife Ruth, and even more confused when he looked in the mirror and saw an "old and fat" man looking back at him. He had absolutely no recollection of the past 20 years and was understandably freaking out.
His wife tried desperately to refresh his memory -- showing him pictures, introducing him to his 10-year-old daughter, and even driving around the neighborhood. She finally took him to see a doctor who diagnosed him with amnesia and told him he would likely regain his memory in a day or so. That was a year ago and he still hasn't regained much of his memory from the past two decades. He even had to quit his job as a hearing specialist because he had no recollection of his post high school education and training. Doctors believe the amnesia was likely triggered by emotional stress. He is currently in therapy trying to work through the trauma.
