WEIRD NEWS: Unknown Number
A hiker who was missing for more than 24 hours on a mountain in Colorado could have been rescued immediately if he had just answered his phone.
A search and rescue team were alerted to the missing hiker and tried to reach him by calling his cellphone. They tried multiple times, but there was no answer. The reason there was no answer, as they would later find out, is that he ignored the calls because they came from an unknown number and he didn't want to answer.
The hiker, who had gotten sidetracked along the trail and lost his way, says he eventually found the trail and hiked back down the mountain to where his car was parked. He was surprised to later learn that a rescue team had been searching for him. More here: (USA Today)
Scott's Thoughts:
- How the heck can someone with a cell phone get lost? Obviously he had cell service. Make a phone call and ask for help!
- Maybe it was a flip phone. All smart phones have maps like Waze, google maps etc.
- The rescue team ended up putting in a lot of man hours looking for him.
- Something's not quite right with this. Maybe he just didn't want to be found.
