“Emotional Escape Rooms” Are A New Home Trend

“Emotional Escape Rooms” Are A Hot New Home Trend

With all the time people have been spending at home over the last two years, they’re finding ways to make their homes work better for them. And with all the emotions we’ve experienced living through the pandemic, it makes sense that one of the top emerging home trends is creating an “emotional escape room” inside the house.

Pinterest coined the term, which refers to the ways people are searching to make better use of their spare and less-used rooms. These emotional escape rooms are a place to go to feel all the feels. Pinterest predicted that in 2022, “People will plan their great (indoor) escapes and designate rooms in their home to decompress, vibe and rage.” And it seems people are converting these rooms into little libraries, music dens and even spaces for crystals. The idea is to create a little sanctuary for yourself in any way that feels right to you.

When Pinterest analyzed its global data from October 2019 to September 2021, it showed searches for music-themed rooms and home massage parlors have basically doubled and searches for crystal rooms were eight times higher. Zillow’s 2022 Home Trends backs this up, finding that homeowners prioritize having a retreat inside their homes and that highlighting those features could help a house sell for 2.2% more than expected. “The pandemic forced a lot of people to reevaluate what’s most important in their homes,” Zillow home trends expert Amanda Pendleton explains. “For many, 2022 is the moment to start living those values.”

  • These sound way more fun than the other kind of escape rooms!
  • Mine would have a TV, Video Games and maybe a punching bag.
