WEIRD NEWS: Bee Friendly

WEIRD NEWS: Bee Friendly

If you plant some bee-friendly flowers around your house, you should expect some bees. And if you plant a lot of bee-friendly flowers, you should expect a lot of bees.

An Omaha couple had to temporarily move out of their house after thousands of bees were found living inside the walls. Thomas and Marylu Gouttierre said they had planted the flowers outside the house but never expected them to attract so many little buzzers. And a hole in the brick exterior of the house provided the bees a way inside. The couple first noticed them in the kitchen and then found dozens of them flying around a second-floor bedroom. They then started hearing a buzzing noise behind the walls.

At first they thought to call in an exterminator, but understanding how important bees are to the environment, they called in a bee trapper to safely remove them from the home and relocate them. When the job was done, about 6,000 bees had been removed from the house. (Omaha World-Herald)

Scott's Thoughts:

  • If you plant it, they will come.
  • Oh, no way I'm staying in that house. It's time to move.
  • Do you really want to invite bees to your house?
