Check Mate

Check Mate

A Hawaiian man who tried to pass some bad checks to bail three friends out of jail now finds himself behind bars.

Police say Samuela Tuikolongahau Jr. of Honolulu presented three bank checks totaling $1.2 million to bail out three people who were being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. It's unclear what his relationship was to the three people. Authorities say they told him the checks would need to be verified and that's when he turned around and quickly left the courthouse. The checks were later determined to be counterfeit and police placed him under arrest. and if he's waiting for a friend to do the same thing for him, he shouldn't hold his breath because he's being held without bail.

Apparently, counterfeiting isn't a new thing for him, either. He was once arrested for passing a fake check to purchase a Land Rover and used someone else's identification to open a bank account and tried to deposit fake checks into it. (ABC News)

Scott's Thoughts:

  • You can be sure there've been times when he wrote a bad check and got away with it.
  • He didn't think the checks would need to be verified? Amateur.
  • Now that's a good friend.
