Lady Thinks 911 Is a Joke
You would have to be really stupid to make a threatening phone call to the police department. And if you do it more than 11,000 times, you would have to be Carla Jefferson of St. Petersburg, Florida.
The 50-year-old woman was arrested this week for making harassing calls to the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office -- something police say she's done more than 11,000 times this year. There was even one 24-hour period in which she made 512 harassing calls to police. Jefferson told police she does it because she “loves playing this game.” On occasion, she would challenge the police to come to her house and arrest her, and then she would refuse to open the door and then wave a middle finger at officers.
Investigators say Jefferson “harasses, belittles, swears at, argues with” police employees who answer her calls, adding, "The content of these phone calls are vulgar, threatening, or obscene” and “contain extreme expletives, sexual innuendo, and belittling remarks to the communications staff." Police had warned her that repeatedly doing this would lead to criminal charges, but she ignored them and has been arrested multiple times. (The Smoking Gun)

- The police department says her phone calls made up 10% of their total call volume.
- Perhaps an extended period of time in jail might get her to stop. I say do that!
- She better hope she never has a real emergency, because police will never believe her.
