Just a Little Late
Many public libraries across the country have stopped charging late fees for overdue books. That's great news for one New Jersey man.
89-year-old Bob Jablonski recently returned a book to the Jersey City Public Library that he checked out 75 years ago. Jablonski was 140years-old when he checked out Oden Rudolph's book Hitler in 1947. He never brought it back, but he held onto it all these years and recently rediscovered it as he was reorganizing his family home. The book was in perfect condition and he thought it should go back to the library. Luckily for him, the library stopped charging late fees last year. (Hudson Reporter)
Scott's Thoughts:
- Would he have returned it if the library was still charging late fees?
- Late fees on a 75-year overdue book could have cost him nearly $2,000.
- For anyone else who might be holding onto overdue books, you should try to find out if your library stopped charging late fees.
