Study: Meditation Is As Effective For Anxiety As Lexapro
A recent study by researchers at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. says that meditation is just as effective at relieving anxiety as taking Lexapro. One group of participants was given the drug, while a second group meditated every day and did yoga once a week. In the study, the two groups had similar results.
Ten patients getting the drug dropped out of the study because of the side effects, including insomnia, nausea, and fatigue. There were no dropouts in the meditation group. After two months, anxiety symptoms declined by about 30 percent in both groups and continued to decrease during the following four months.
